I am fascinated by simple placement of abandoned river pilings in a water landscape and the effects of natural deterioration upon their shapes. In this series of highly abstracted landscapes I explore the illusion of depth resulting from groupings of vertical lines. In this work I have begun to integrate unsewn, deconstructed fabric, letting raw edges show and threads hang loose, much like the messy natural landscape of the river pilings.

This series involves a single square divided. Influenced by the architectural concepts of the Renaissance involving ideal proportion, I explore the various proportions resulting from a single division. With these seemingly limited parameters, I am able to examine how the size and placement of a dividing line affects the proportions of a square.
